Governance & Accountability

How The Smarty Pants Foundation is organized, overseen, and held accountable.

This is a working draft. The bracketed items below need real organizational facts (legal status, registration number, board members, financial figures) filled in before this page is published.

Our Legal Status

The Smarty Pants Foundation is [INSERT LEGAL STATUS — e.g. "a registered nonprofit organization"], registered under [INSERT REGISTRATION NUMBER / JURISDICTION]. [If applicable, add tax-exempt status and any relevant registration identifiers here.]

Board and Leadership

The Foundation is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for strategic oversight, financial stewardship, and program integrity.

[INSERT: names and roles of board members / leadership team, or a summary of board composition and how often it meets.]

How We Select Scholarship Recipients

Applications are reviewed by Foundation administrators against published eligibility criteria, including academic standing, financial need, and supporting references. Every application is recorded with a timestamped audit trail of status changes (submitted, in review, approved, or rejected), so decisions can be traced back to who made them and when.

Financial Transparency

We are committed to directing the majority of funds raised toward direct student support rather than administrative overhead.

[INSERT: most recent fiscal year's summary — total raised, % to program vs. overhead, link to an annual report or Form 990-equivalent filing if one exists.]

Data Stewardship

Applicant and guardian data is treated as confidential. Access is restricted to the account that submitted an application and to authorized administrators, enforced through database-level access controls. See our Privacy Policy for full detail on what is collected and how it is protected.

Conflicts of Interest

Board members and administrators involved in application review are expected to disclose and recuse themselves from any application where they have a personal or financial connection to the applicant. [INSERT: link to a formal conflict-of-interest policy if one exists.]

Reporting a Concern

If you have a concern about the Foundation's conduct, an application decision, or how your data has been handled, contact us at info@thespfoundation.org. All concerns are reviewed by [INSERT: who reviews concerns — e.g. "a board member not involved in the original decision"].
